Our Mission
Our mission is to promote the reuse and re-dyeing of old garments using natural indigo, produced from locally grown indigo plants in Amsterdam.
We aim to collect garments and give them new life through indigo dyeing, offering a sustainable alternative to textile waste.
This year, we aim to expand the indigo garden in Amsterdam Noord. Our goal is to cultivate indigo on 300 sqm of land, growing from our current 30 sqm.

What is Indigo?
The indigo plant has traditionally been used for fabric dyeing to achieve a blue color, and we are cultivating Japanese indigo (Persicaria tinctoria).

How it works?
The Blue Monkey project operates in several phases:
Below we explain more specific process to partitipation.
Blue Monkey collect garments from neighbors, dye them using natural indigo, and then distribute the newly transformed garments back to the community. To exchange, we ask to coltivate Indigo plant in your garden and bring us dryed leaves for next season.
Work With Local Community
The Blue Monkey project also seeks to foster stronger connections within the local community. Through collaborative dyeing activities, we aim to create a shared experience that unites neighbors.
Our slogan, “Indigo Dye for Everyone” expresses our belief that everyone should have the chance to participate in indigo dyeing works and refresh their textiles sustainably. By reconnecting people with traditional dyeing techniques, we hope to add value not only to textiles but also to the environment and the local community.

We have prepared our own currency for this project.
The ‘Blue Monkey Token’ is an original currency designed to reward your contributions and engage with this activity. This system is built using Web3 technology, so you will need to install Metamask to use it.
