The mordant is a substance used in the textile industry to fix the coloring substances to the fibers of textile products, which forms with the dye an insoluble compound. The mordants are often composed of inorganic oxides or salts which are adsorbed by the tissues, and which form complexes colored with the colored substances.
3 different type of mordant
Alum Mordant
– Alum rock 6 g
(2 teaspoon)
– 100 ml white vinegar
Prepare a bowl and put 6g of Rock alum rock and pour 50ml of white vinegar. Heat it and melt over low heat.
Iron Mordant
– 100 g rusty nails
– 100 ml white vinegar
Prepare a bowl and put 100g of rusty nails and pour 100ml of white vinegar. Heat about 3 minutes on low heat. Remove the nails and leave to rest 30 min.
Copper Mordant
– Copper sulphate 6g
(2 teaspoon)
– 100 ml white vinegar
Prepare a bowl and put 6g of copper sulphate and pour 50ml of white vinegar. Heat it and melt over low heat.
